- The plant and animal nutrition company and the academic centre have created the 'TIMAC AGRO-UAL Chair of Innovation in Horticultural Crops' to promote research into these crops and increase their production with more sustainable practices.

- This is the fifth TIMAC AGRO Chair, which joins four others signed with prestigious Spanish universities: the University of Navarra, the University of Córdoba, the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the University of Lleida.


The plant and animal nutrition company, TIMAC AGRO, and the University of Almería (UAL), have today created the 'TIMAC AGRO-UAL Chair of Innovation in Horticultural Crops', to promote research into these crops and design strategies to increase their production in a sustainable manner.

The signing ceremony, held this morning at the UAL, was attended by representatives from both institutions: on behalf of TIMAC AGRO, the company's general commercial director, Mario Domingo, and the sales director for the area, Antonio Cutillas. On behalf of the University, the rector, José Joaquín Céspedes Lorente, and the director of the Chair, Virginia Pinillos, professor in the area of ??Plant Production at the UAL School of Engineering, among others.

“This agreement comes after 30 years of TIMAC AGRO presence in the area and the incorporation of more than 30 graduates from the University of Almería to the TIMAC AGRO team,” said Mario Domingo. He also stressed the agricultural importance of Almería, which is home to the largest greenhouse surface area in the world.

“Thanks to this collaboration, supported by the presence of 25 of our technicians in the area, we will increase the transfer of knowledge, not only between TIMAC AGRO and the university, but also with all farmers and collaborators in the area,” he said.

For his part, José Joaquín Céspedes expressed his satisfaction at “continuing to add knowledge in these fields of such relevance, now with this new Chair, which will promote training, research, development and dissemination of knowledge in the agricultural field.”

He added: “This new Chair is aligned with our Strategic Plan, which refers to the economic and social development of the province, and particularly its agro-industrial sector, through synergies with the business sector.”
